MENTAL HEALTH LIAISON SERVICE

Who are we?
Roger Kerry (Mental Health Liaison Worker) and Bryony White (Administrative Assistant)

Who employs us?
We have been employed by NDVA, with funding from Chesterfield PCT since January 1st 2005. The project is now funded by Derbyshire County PCT, and covers the whole of North Derbyshire.

What was the situation when we started?
In Derbyshire, in common with the rest of the country, there has been a realisation by the Government of the importance of voluntary sector organisations in delivering mental health services. The number of services delivered by the sector is expected to grow in the future.

In the South of Derbyshire there are more voluntary organisations providing mental health services than in the North. There has been a separate forum for voluntary sector mental health service providers and a liaison worker for several years. This has not been the case in the North.

What is our role?
The role of the Service is:
• to develop a platform for voluntary agencies delivering mental health services to come together to discuss matters of common interest and influence strategic planning in mental health;
• to represent voluntary sector mental health providers on the Derbyshire Mental Health Strategic Commissioning Group and other key planning groups;
• to ensure voluntary sector representation on other joint agency planning groups and review bodies;
• to train and support other voluntary sector representatives.

What do we hope to achieve in the future?
Our aim is to build on the valuable work currently done by voluntary sector groups in our area and to ensure proper representation in the future planning of services in Derbyshire.

How can we be contacted?
Roger and Bryony work part time, usually on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We can be contacted at NDVA, 1 The Market Hall, Chesterfield, S40 1AR. Tel: 01246 555908. E-mail ndvamentalhealth@btconnect.com
