New online help is launched this week for people in Derbyshire who are struggling to beat smoking, lose weight, eat more healthily or get more active.

The Live Life Better Derbyshire (LLBD) website  has been revamped with more resources and support available at the click of a mouse for people looking for expert help to improve their lifestyles and reduce their risk of chronic health problems.

It is part of an initiative funded by Derbyshire County Council to ensure people looking for help to improve their health and wellbeing can find it all in one central website.

Visitors to the website can then tap into the expertise of a team at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust who run the Live Life Better service across the county.

Dr Rachel Holt, consultant clinical psychologist from the Live Life Better Derbyshire team, said: “All our staff are fully trained and know how difficult it can be to make changes to the habits of a lifetime, many of them will have made these changes themselves.

“It can take a lot of courage to seek help for problems like losing weight or other lifestyle issues which people may have struggled with for years. We’ve developed the website to be friendly and accessible so people can find out what’s available to help them whenever they feel ready, at any time of day or night and from the privacy of home.”

The provision of a centralised accessible website means information can be kept up-to-date about the local services provided, as part of the wellbeing approach across Derbyshire. The online resources also reduce the need for people to travel to appointments, with the use of web-based and telephone advice and triage.

Maddy Robinson, from the Life Live Better Derbyshire team, said: “The website is a gateway via which people can seek help and refer themselves into services, such as giving up smoking or losing weight, or both. Often people come to us for help for several lifestyle-related problems. Having all the help and advice in one Live Life Better website makes it easier for people to find what they need and for us to support them holistically.”

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Dave Allen, said: “Making sure that Derbyshire is a happy and healthy place to live and work is one of our key priorities.

“We’re pleased to be funding the Live Life Better Derbyshire service and would encourage everyone to take a look at what the new website has to offer.

“Whether you need support to stop smoking or advice on how to make healthy lifestyle changes, the LLBD team are on hand to help.”
